SC big man making moves

ATLANTA, Ga. -- If there is a young big man almost no one is talking about nationally, DJ Burns fits the bill. The big man from York Prep (SC) has joined the prestigious Georgia Stars program and made an immediate impact. To put it frankly: DJ can play.

He a wide shouldered post player that has the ability to score over both shoulder. His game reminds the common fan of players such as Elton Brand, Zach Randolph, and Kennedy Meeks as guys who are not the most athletic but understand how to use their bodies and have super soft touch.  “I don’t really try to model myself after anyone. I stick to my own game and do work. I love to stay true to post play but I also

DJ makes a living on the blocks with an array of moves including hooks and fadeaway shots over both shoulders. The big fella can also step out of the paint and hit his jumpshot, which has a very high release, out to 12-15 feet. On the defensive side of the ball, DJ has the ability to hold down the paint and block some shots while also being a good rebounder on the defensive glass.

He has really enjoyed the move over to the incredibly talented Georgia Stars 15U team. “A lot of great things have already come from this opportunity and this is really only the beginning.” His team undoubtedly has to be one of the best 15U teams in the nation, featuring a plethora of talent that allows him to thrive and do what he does best.

Recruitment is not too advanced yet but he already reportedly has offers from Winthrop, Tulane, and North Carolina A&T. Along with those schools, the big dogs are already circling and he has interest from Georgia, Tennessee, and Wake Forest.

Chris Williams, his AAU coach with the 15U Georgia Stars, had this to say about DJ: “a young Zach Randolph, a lefty with a nice touch around the rim and great footwork to get past other bigs. DJ has a great mid range game for his size which makes him standout.”

Expect to hear more about DJ Burns as the AAU season goes on and especially as he gets older. This young man has a ton of potential and as he grows into his body, will be on the radar of BCS schools around the country.
